그럼에도 불구하고, 스토리지 업그레이드를 계획 중인 독자들은 가까운 시일 내에 가격이 하락할 것이라고 기대해서는 안 됩니다. https://www.techpowerup.com/353401/chinese-nand-maker-ymtc-reportedly-expects-memory-shortage-to-last-another-three-years [Chinese NAND Maker YMTC Reportedly Expects Memory Shortage to Last Another Three Years] https://techpowerup.com/353401/chinese-nand-maker-ymtc-reportedly-expects-memory-shortage-to-last-another-three-years [외부 원문 1] [URL] https://www.techpowerup.com/353401/chinese-nand-maker-ymtc-reportedly-expects-memory-shortage-to-last-another-three-years [제목] Chinese NAND Maker YMTC Reportedly Expects Memory Shortage to Last Another Three Years Tuesday, October 6th 2026 Chinese NAND Maker YMTC Reportedly Expects Memory Shortage to Last Another Three Years by DrUsmanSaleem Today, 00:10 Discuss (14 Comments) Chinese NAND flash maker YMTC apparently expects the global memory shortage to last another three years. The claim comes from a profile of the company published by The Wire China , in which a YMTC employee, speaking anonymously, shared the outlook. The same employee said YMTC has raised prices for its chips and shifted capacity toward higher-margin products. The excerpt was shared on X by @jukan05, who read it as a NAND forecast, although the employee's wording covers memory in general. Three more years would put the end of the shortage somewhere around late 2029. This is one unnamed employee's words, of course, and not public guidance from YMTC. That 2029 prediction is well past TrendForce's estimate, which has NAND flash supply loosening in the second half of 2027 as new capacity comes online. It sits closer to Micron's view, with CEO Sanjay Mehrotra saying last week that supply will be much tighter in 2027 and 2028 . The shift in capacity matters too, especially for regular PC builders. Counterpoint Research ranked YMTC fourth in NAND bit shipments in Q2 with a 14% share, yet only fifth in revenue, since its product mix leans toward consumer applications. Moving capacity to higher-margin chips could leave less for consumer SSDs, even as YMTC works to double its wafer output with new fabs . Nevertheless, readers planning a storage upgrade shouldn't count on prices dropping anytime soon. Maybe they are playing a game of Chinese whispers and seeing how the memory cartel will react after throwing this small bit of 'news' out as bait. Maybe its a game of Chinese Chess and we're not invited. #2 FreedomEclipse Maybe they are playing a game of Chinese whispers and seeing what the memory cartel will react after throwing this small bit of 'news' out as bait. Well yes, this is how modern cartels synchronise without potentially incriminating private communications between members. Someone lets out a public message like "we'll have to raise prices by zzz% over the next 3 months", and those who need to understand, understand. #3 Nothing new here. All the major players are at 100% capacity / sold out through 2027 and the chinese fabs won't come online until 2028. #4 “!…. A new player has entered the cartel”. I really am surprised a memory company would say a thing like this, truly. #5 Perhaps ymtc is joining the big 3 cartel, though I wish it would stop being called a "shortage". The shortage being pushed on the dram market is completely artificial. #6 self interested circle jerk info, Chinese whispers indeed. #7 The same employee said YMTC has raised prices for its chips and shifted capacity toward higher-margin products What? they can't do that! all those people that wanted these guys to come and "save" them from the others said that once they enter the market, prices will drop it just goes to show you that everyone is going to higher-margin products, since that is really the only thing that counts for a business #8 Well Jensen wants US all to join his rent to play platform - if we cant buy hardware - we would have to join. Ill personally go old school modning before that happend #9 When everyone is building fabs, it's easy to come to the conclusion that there will be a shortage for RAM and NAND for more than 2-3 years. #10 Oh my God. Im not sure if you are being sarcastic, but thats how I read it. These arent like grocery stores, it takes a bit to build them and then even afterward they need to be cleaned and steralized before and after the equipment comes in. I read it and was like "yeah obviously". Maybe im just too out of touch, but iv worked for these big companies and even they cant make the buildings show up over night. #12 They keep operating from the belief current demand will be ongoing. It won’t, data centres aren’t coming online, venture capital ram out, demand will drop. #13 MikOnTopGG Oh my God. Everyone is saying something else!! Just shut up! No one is right at this point! I read it and was like "yeah obviously". Maybe im just too out of touch, but iv worked for these big companies and even they cant make the buildings show up over night. I am not being sarcastic. I might simply be wrong. But if I am not mistaken, memory manufacturing companies are pouring massive amounts of money into building new factories and upgrading their production capacity. And as you said yourself, these are not grocery stores that can be set up overnight. So if someone goes and drops 20, 30, or even more billion dollars on a new factory that will start producing memory in 2 years, they have calculated both the 2 years of construction and the 3-5—or I don't know how many—years of operation this new factory will need to become a profitable investment. If companies weren't increasing their investments to build new factories but were instead finding excuses to keep existing infrastructure around for longer, those would be pure cartel moves. But here, the demand seems to be there, at least for HBM, and it is realistically expected to exist and even strengthen in the coming years. So, I would say that our problems with memory and storage media will continue for at least the next 4-5 years. I wish I were being sarcastic or that I am just completely wrong. #14 1TB portable hard drives goes now over 100 euro WHY AI need HDD?
